WhatsApp Tips: Change Your WhatsApp Number Without Losing Chats and Contacts
WhatsApp Tips: Meta-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp, the most popular messaging platform across the world, gives its users the option to change their number using the in-app feature. With this feature, you can change your mobile number and at the same time your chat does not fly and contacts remain intact.
WhatsApp offers a dedicated feature for this called 'Change Number' which also helps you notify people in your contact list that you have updated your number. To change your WhatsApp number without losing contacts, follow these steps:
Before changing your phone number, make sure that your new phone number can receive SMS or phone calls and has an active cellular connection. Make sure your old phone number is currently registered on WhatsApp on your phone.
- Step 1: First of all you have to open WhatsApp Settings and then tap on your profile picture to find your registered phone number.
- Step 2: Android users can then access WhatsApp's settings by tapping on the three-dot hamburger menu at the top right.
- Step 3: Now, tap on Account and select 'Change Number' option.
- Step 4: You will then be asked if you are able to receive SMS and voice calls on your new number.
- Step 5: When it is confirmed, tap on 'Next'.
- Step 6: It will then ask if you want your WhatsApp contacts to be notified about your new number.
- Step 7: You have three options to choose from - All Contacts, Contacts with whom I have chatted or Customer number. WhatsApp will also automatically notify groups about changes in your number.
- Step 8: After this, finally you have to click on 'Done'.
- Step 9: After doing so, the app will ask you to register your new phone number.
- Step 10: You will then receive a six digit verification code via SMS or phone call which you will need to enter in the app to finish the registration.
- Step 11: After the registration is complete, you will be able to see your old chats and contacts on WhatsApp.
