mPassport Police App launched
mPassport Police App: Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has introduced 'mPassport Police App'. The app aims to further speed up police verification during the passport issuance process.
Police verification is an integral part of the passport issuance system and several steps have been taken to rectify this over the years. To further expedite this important process, the Ministry of External Affairs has introduced the 'mPassport Police App'. The Ministry of External Affairs is the nodal ministry for issuing passports in the country.
Who can use the 'mPassport Police App'
mPassport Police App is available to download for police station users. These include those who are already using PSP Police (Web) application for the purpose of Police Verification of Passport Seva applicants to enter the inputs (details) of field verification processing done at the applicant's address. This means that the app is for police personnel who will visit passport applicants' homes for verification.
Police personnel given tablets for passport clearance
The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Delhi said mobile tablets are being given to the city police for this. On the occasion of Delhi Police's Raising Day on 16 February, Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave away 350 mobile tablets to the Special Branch personnel of Delhi Police.
To reduce passport issuance time to 10 days
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the mPassport Police App seeks to reduce the police verification time from 15 days to 5 days. This will effectively reduce the time frame for issuing passports to 10 days. In 2022, to address the increase in demand for Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), the Ministry of External Affairs has decided to include the facility to apply for PCC services online at all Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK) across India .
